As a leader in community impact, we are seeking an Executive Director to guide our organization into its next phase of growth and innovation.

Position Summary:

The Executive Director (ED) will be responsible for the overall leadership, management, and operational effectiveness of the United Way of Darke County. This role requires a dynamic, strategic, and visionary leader who can effectively drive community engagement, manage the office building, oversee financial operations, and build strong relationships with donors, volunteers, and community partners.  This position reports directly to the Executive Board and work closely with the Darke County United Way Board.  All decisions are voted on and approved by the Darke County United Way Board of Directors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Strategic Vision:
    • Provide visionary leadership and set strategic direction for the organization.
    • Develop and implement long-term goals and objectives to achieve the mission and strategic plan.
    • Represent the organization in public forums, including speaking engagements, media interactions, and community events.
  • Fundraising and Resource Development:
    • Develop and implement fundraising strategies to meet or exceed annual financial goals.
    • Cultivate and maintain relationships with major donors, corporate partners, and grant-making institutions.  Solicits leadership giving and secures new sources of revenue for continued growth in the campaign.
    • Oversee campaign planning and execution, ensuring effective donor engagement and stewardship.
    • Leads and directs the allocation process for appropriate distribution of funds to member agencies.
  • Financial and Operational Management:
    • Oversee the organization’s budget and financial management including but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections, and designations, ensuring transparency and accountability.
    • Ensure compliance with all legal, financial, and ethical standards.
    • Monitor and manage operational efficiency, facilities, and technology.
  • Community Relations and Advocacy:
    • Foster partnerships with community organizations, businesses, and government entities to advance the mission of United Way.
    • Engage with community members and stakeholders to build support and collaboration.
  • Volunteer Management:
    • Develop and support a strong, motivated team of staff and volunteers.
    • Cultivate a positive and inclusive organizational culture.
  • Program Oversight:
    • Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of programs and initiatives.
    • Ensure programs align with the strategic goals and community needs.
    • Measure and report on program outcomes and impact.
    • Performs other duties as assigned by the Executive Board.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit management, business administration, finance, social work, or a related field is preferred.
    • Experience in nonprofit management is preferred.
    • Proven track record of successful fundraising and donor relations.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    • Strong leadership and management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
    • Excellent financial acumen and experience with budgeting and financial oversight.
    • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
    • Strategic thinker with the ability to develop and implement effective programs and initiatives.
    • Experience with community engagement and advocacy.
    • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs without assistance and 50 lbs with assistance.  
    • Must be able to work varied hours as needed to meet with local stakeholders after normal working hours to meet with employee groups on evening shifts and to attend fundraising events in the evening.  Additional hours are expected during campaign time period.
    • Must have a valid drivers license and be willing to travel to agencies, companies and fundraising events and provide your own transportation.
    • Must successfully complete a thorough background check including employer references, criminal report, credit report and drug screen.
